I’m a YouTube producer, filmmaker, and editor in Richmond, Virginia. I’ve been doing this for 15+ years, usually by getting interested in something and learning everything I can about it.
That’s how I went from graphic design to weddings, YouTube channels, my own podcast, and a lot of time on golf courses with a camera.
How I got here
Design, photography, and a lot of filmmaking.
Where it started
BFA in Graphic Design · West Virginia University
I went to college interested in design and fell in love with filmmaking along the way. I was also photographing weddings and working with church creative teams, getting experience with video, live production, and design in all kinds of settings.
Photography still shapes how I shoot. I’ve photographed products, portraits, weddings, and collegiate sports, including fast-moving athletes under live press deadlines.
Design still shapes how I edit. Composition, typography, color, and hierarchy show up in everything from a thumbnail to the graphics inside a video.

My wife, Ashley, and I grew a college side project into our business. We documented weddings across the country and around the world, working together for about a decade.
I loved finding the story in a day that only happened once. Those years taught me to anticipate moments, work with whatever light I had, and come home with the footage I needed.
When our daughter was born, we realized the wedding lifestyle no longer fit the family life we wanted. We still loved the work, but it was time to start making a change.

The move into YouTube
Making the kinds of videos I loved watching.
YouTube gave me a place to bring my interests together: ideas, cameras, editing, photography, and design. I liked being able to make something, see how people responded, and keep improving it.
Over time, that led to launching Katelyn James’s channel and growing it to 100,000 subscribers, helping create the Goulet Pencast, and making my own podcast to learn the process firsthand.

What I’m spending a lot of time on now
Golf, on both sides of the camera.
YouTube helped me rediscover my love of golf, and I’ve been following the channels and community for years. Getting to work with Good Good, Chasing Scratch, and Matt Scharff has been a lot of fun. I already followed their work as a fan.
I try to play whenever work and family life allow, although lately I’ve spent more time holding a camera than a club. Knowing the game as a player and a viewer is a big part of why I enjoy making these videos.
Ashley and I live in Richmond, Virginia, with our four young children. Between family life and work, there’s usually plenty going on.
When I get a little free time, I love a round of golf, keeping up with Formula One, and a good cup of coffee. I’m also always excited for a chance to travel somewhere new.

I don’t really separate those skills when I’m working. On a shoot, I’m already thinking about the edit. While editing, I might spot a better thumbnail idea. Years of doing different kinds of work have made it easier to see what a project needs.
